My E-portfolio reflects how I am a simple and realistic person because the layout is organized and easy to follow. Since I am a communication major, my portfolio is geared toward the English portion. The theme I chose was called notepad, and this resembles how life is a notepad waiting to be written on. Just as a notebook waits patiently for its author, my e-portfolio is an open book where I can post my work and write about my experiences. The notepad theme’s light brown colors set a peaceful tone, and the hardly visible notebook lines remind me that I need to continue to write on my open book and add to my portfolio. As I continue to create new projects, my notebook will never run out of open pages to fill.

I watched a remix video that used the Russian Futurists song “lets get ready to crumble.” I think the video was trying to show how the world is starting to crumble because of our advancing technologies. Electricity, factories, infrastructure and machines will eventually blow up and the entire world will end. I’m not sure what the random guy was doing in the film, or why he was carrying around piping material. Maybe he’s trying to prevent something from happening, or fix a current problem, but he appeared to be too late.
I thought this remix was very abstract and would fit into the upper part of McCloud’s triangle. The video is very picture specific because one has to pay close attention to the video to understand what is going on; I had to watch it multiple times because the footage is extremely abstract. The title seemed to be the only significant words that added to the overall meaning, especially when explosions occurred this reinforced the idea of the world crumbling.

RIP: A Remix Manifesto proved to be a movie that really makes people think about their limitations with creativity. I think remixing songs is something people should be allowed to do. Today the music industry does a lot of repetition of songs and themes. This constant repetition causes people to become bored with new songs, but remixing allows for new creations of old music. Girl Talk was trying to make people excited about their work and it was working. Remixed songs bring a new twist on music and it keeps people involved. Although some might believe remixing causes copyright issues, I think remixing is just another form of art that creates something new. Culture does build on the past, but in order for society to do that they need to be allowed to show their creativity. However, copyright laws and companies are overly protective of their work; this causes problems with what songs can be used. I’m not sure where the future of remixing is going, but hopefully it can continue.
I’m not sure how I’ll relate RIP to my project. I’m not as high-tech as the movie was but hopefully I can work in some new musical remix. I also hope to add in images and video footage that goes along with the music.

I chose to do my photo essay on prezi, and I also made a poster on powerpoint specifically for the dorm.
